Canadian cultivar with a great commercial potential, bred at the University of Saskatchewan; belongs to a small group of late-bloomers, produces a late-season crop thanks to which it can attractively extend the Haskap harvest season.
A vigorous grower with a dense compact and straight habit, its bushes develop stiff skeletal branches.
Yields broadly oval and broadly heart-shaped fruits which are fi rm and fl eshy, weigh 1.9 g (max. 2.1 g) on average and are extremely sweet and naturally delicious; although its berries do not look as good as those of ‘Boreal Beauty’, they have excellent fl avour also after defrosting and are especially recommended for fruit processing; it is best to pick them early in the morning when it is not too hot and freeze them straight after harvesting; they do not drop off ; its bush’s traits and its ripening characteristics show that this cultivar is ideal for mechanical harvesting.
A late season variety, its fruits ripen at the end of July (according to the climate and weather observations for Saskatoon, Canada).
To obtain its abundant crop, it is recommended to plant several diff erent Haskap varieties together (to enable crosspollination) and it is good to grow such plants which bloom at the same time, especially ‘Boreal Beauty’; those two cultivars were called ‘Boreal Beauty’ and ‘Boreal Beast’ (the “Beauty and the Beast”) to be easily associated and matched; ‘Boreal Blizzard’ and ‘Aurora’ also bloom at a similar time.
